Feel the Fear…

Today, I want to talk about something that’s pretty important to us as human beings. It is called emotions. Emotions play a major role in the achievement of our goals and in helping us find our flow and in life generally. However, we often label our emotions as good or bad( I have noticed this from where I am coming from and the conversations I’ve had with people ). And when we perceive emotion as bad, then we stop ourselves from feeling them. I have come to believe that ;

Emotions are not good or bad. They’re just an indication of what’s going of what’s going on on the inside of you.

Give yourself the permission to feel every emotion that comes up for you. If it’s happiness, feel happy. If it’s sadness, then feel sad. If it’s anger, allow yourself to feel that (but hey, don’t punch somebody in the face okay). Just allow yourself to feel what the emotion ecologically.

Emotions are not age or class dependent, so don’t say ‘i am an adult so i shouldn’t be angry’. Bottling up our emotions on the inside is why we have people exploding at moments they did not expect over minor things and in places they least expect as well. So allow yourself to ecologically feel your emotions in ways that is not hurting yourself or others.

Secondly, allow yourself to acknowledge the roots of this emotion. Were is this emotion coming from? why do you feel this way? what specifically about the situation makes you sad or angry etc. It is also important to put a name to the emotion you are experiencing and where specifically you are feel it e.g. i feel anxious, and i have this moving sensation in my tummy or I feel this burning anger in my neck.

Identifying and naming an emotion puts it on the spotlight.

Lets talk about one of the emotions that every human being feels at one point or the other in their lives. FEAR. Fear comes up a lot when pursuing our goals, when building relationships or business, fear comes up every now and then especially when you’re about to delve into things that you haven’t experienced before. One of the things I did with one of my clients in the past was to remind her that it’s okay to feel fear. I want to tell you that it’s okay to be afraid, it’s okay to be scared about something but feel the fear and do it anyways .Don’t let the fear stop you, don’t let the fear hold you captive, don’t let the fear get you to a place where you’re unable to act.

One of the greatest ways to overcome fear is actually taking action. So if you’re feeling fearful about the goals that we’ve set earlier on in this process, if you’re feeling fearful about building a connection or a relationship;

Feel the fear then take action anyways.

When finding your flow in life, you’re going to feel afraid. I worked with a client who was so afraid of delving into her career path, she’s a very beautiful young lady who has a lot of skills and talents and things she wanted to achieve but she was so afraid. What if I’m not good enough? what if they don’t accept m?, what if I fail the exams? what if… she had all of these fears and you know I did some work with her which is what I do in this process of flow finding and helping you just get to this place where you’re able to create a life that you want. And after a period of sessions with this lady it is just amazing what she is doing now. I ran into her and she’s doing pretty well and she tell she told me this; Your words keep ringing in my head ‘feel the fear but do it anyway, i still feel the fear but I’m still doing it”. There is a book on this by Sussan Jeffers, titled feel the fear and do it anyways.

Taking actions is the is the quickest way to rid yourself of fear. Tony Robins.

Fear is going to keep coming up, creeping its head up, it’s going to keep showing up so if it’s that proposal you want to send in and you are terrified or you’re scared to take the next step in your career or relationship , then the easiest way to rid yourself of fear is taking action. Recognize and pay attention to what the fear is trying to teach you, take appropriate precaution then act. The fear wouldn’t necessarily go away but when you begin to see the results of your actions, begin to get applause and reward from your actions the fear goes away.
